tuatara's Review

This post is in response to the review by tuatara of my story Moxibustion Violation, which appeared on AFFnet on 2011-07-22. In fact, he apparently created an account on AFFnet just to leave the review.

First, let me say that I'm happy to get reviews of all kinds, positive or negative. Hell, what's shocking to me, given the type of story I've written, is that I haven't received a ton of negative reviews. And tuatara's review wasn't even really negative, at least in regard to the story, only toward the other reviewers. I do wish that AFFnet would give me a means to respond to reviews, aside from putting responses in an author's note in the next chapter, when I finally get around to posting the next chapter. Hell, anybody else on the planet could respond to one of these reviews by writing a review of his own. But if I do that the administrators will hide the story and threaten to delete it (since this is precisely what they did when I made some responses of that sort).

Second, I don't want to say anything particularly negative to this reviewer. His review was civil, and he's entitled to his opinion. And I want to hear that opinion. The reviews give me a chance to hear how my readers as a whole feel, and this is how one of them feels.

At the same time, it definitely feels to me as if he's off target. He says, "if I'm to take many of these reviews at face value." Who would take anything related to non-vanilla porn at face value? It's all about fantasy. I sincerely hope there is no one reading my story who cannot separate fantasy from reality. Anyone who would wish for non-consensual scenes from MV to take place in reality would be a sick, sick person.

When people write reviews to express the pleasure they've experienced in reading the story, they are expressing their pleasure in the fantasy. When they tell me what they enjoyed in the story, or would like to see happen, and so forth, it is a given that they are telling me what they liked or hope for from the fantasy. I don't see how anyone could mistake this as a statement of what they like or would enjoy in reality, or even anything remotely close to that. I have certainly never received any such impression (of the latter sort) from any of my reviews, and I hope I never do.

In the end, as with any porn, you should read the things which appeal to your fantasies and avoid the things which don't, and never confuse your fantasies with reality. It seems to me that should go for reviews of such stories as well, at least regarding the reviewers' emotional responses to the story. So I suppose that tuatara is making the right decision to avoid reading any further reviews, if he finds he has difficulty reading them in that manner.

Shampoo Lemon Partner

(Related to a conversation I had with T H Tiger.)

I don't plan to bring the Joketsuzoku into my story Moxibustion Violation. However, I will hopefully finish that story someday, and I have a number of ideas for other stories I'd like to write. Some of them involve Shampoo getting her just desserts.

This brings up my ideas on who would be an appropriate person to give her what she deserves — i.e., overpower her by means physical or magical and then screw her brains out. There are several characters I would consider for the purpose.

On the martial artist side (subduing her physically) are Mousse and Ryoga. It was suggested that a lot of people would say "anybody except Mousse" for such a purpose, but personally I'd be perfectly happy using him for such. Of course, it is a prerequisite that he first grow a set of balls where Shampoo is concerned, but I don't see that as a major stumbling block. Another possibility, especially if the story is set in China, would be Pantyhose Taro. Kuno, on the other hand, I can't really see performing this task.

As for non martial artists (subduing her magically or by some other non-physical means) the leaders of the pack would be Hiroshi and Daisuke. Or possibly just anonymous boys from the school.

I can see Happosai in the role of facilitator, helping to set Shampoo up because she (or Cologne) did something to piss him off. I don't think I'd want him to participate however.

The one male that I really wouldn't be particularly interested to have teach Shampoo her lesson would be the title character, Ranma himself. He could do it, of course, and I can easily imagine scenarios where he would. I just wouldn't be very interested in writing them. Ditto the lack of interest in writing something where Akane, Ukyo and/or Kodachi turn the tables on Shampoo and make her pay in some sexual manner. It's not that I have a problem with such stories, and in fact could certainly enjoy reading them, but I don't feel any inclination toward them as an author.

Just a little insight into where my biases lie.

Hairstyles

I'm sitting outside under the trees with my laptop, feeling lazy. Part of me would like to be writing on my story, but most of me can't get up the energy to get started.

Then I asked myself, what would the females of the Ranma cast do with regard to trimming their pubic hair? The following are my thoughts.

I think Ranma would leave it natural in her cursed form, partly because she's really a guy and it wouldn't immediately occur to her to shave it, and partly because once it did occur, she'd be worried that the trim would carry over to her male body and the guys at school would rib him about it. This depends on her having a sufficiently sparse red-haired delta that trimming for a swimsuit is not necessary.

I think Akane would trim hers into a tidy little triangle, neat and sufficient for her swimsuit, but with no suggestion that she has considered any guy ever getting a look at her down there.

I think Nabiki would trim hers into a thin stripe.

I think Kasumi has repressed passions, and wears lacy underthings made of silk. She shaves her pubic mound completely bald.

Shampoo is also completely bald down there, but for her it's mostly a matter of convenience, since a man should cater to her desires rather than the other way around. Also, she doesn't shave it - she used some secret Joketsuzoku technique to remove all of her pubic hair in a manner where it will never grow back.

Ukyo probably falls somewhere between Akane and Nabiki, trimming moderately but not too far. She imagines Ranma gazing appreciatively at her one day, but she doesn't want to make it look like she was excessively eager for his attention to that part of her.

Kodachi has naturally trimmed her dark black bush into the shape of a black rose.

Nodoka Saotome leaves hers entirely untrimmed. It doesn't matter to her, since she doesn't wear revealing clothing, and since it wouldn't occur to her to worry about what her husband Genma might want in that regard.

Hinako Ninomiya is completely hairless in her normal, younger form. When she transforms, the magic leaves her just as hairless, so she doesn't have to worry about it.

Asuza Shiratori (of the Golden Pair) carefully plucks and trims hers to keep it as sparse as that of a thirteen year old. What remains she dyes bright pink, and she refers to her little delta by the name Madeline.

I didn't even want to contemplate Cologne. Unfortunately my mind went there, recalling her appearance at Shampoo's age, and guessed that she did the same as Shampoo in her youth. After that, the technique used should have kept the situation permanent.
