Greenery Day, Day 19 (2)

A short time later, Ranma was in the Tendo's bathing room, soaping herself up beside the three sisters. Nabiki had just finished explaining how she shaved her pubes into a thin strip.

Ranma looked down at her own bush, acting as if the notion boggled her mind, even though she'd had a few days now to get used to the idea. She looked up again and asked, with a manufactured tremor in her voice, “You ... you shave it? Isn't that dangerous?”

Nabiki laughed. “Not as long as you're careful. It's not like you hack at it with a machete, after all.” Her smile turned sly and she asked, “Would you like me to shave yours for you?”

Ranma looked down between her legs again, then locked eyes with the middle sister, making the first serious change in the day's routine. “Okay. I guess I ought to learn how. Thanks for offering to help.”

Nabiki blinked, staring at the redhead in surprise for several seconds. Then she shook herself and replied, “Um, yeah, okay. No problem.”

“After we finish up, though,” Ranma appended. “I've really been needing a bath, and it's ... nice ... sharing it with all of you.”

“We're happy to do it,” Kasumi told the girl cheerfully. Then she compressed her lips and suggested, “You might want to wait until after lunch to have Nabiki show you how to shave yourself. By the time we finish our bath it will be almost lunchtime, and there's no need to be rushed about it.”

Nabiki just shrugged. If she was going to do it, it didn't much matter to her when.

After all four girls rinsed off, Nabiki rose, stretching. “I don't know about you guys, but I'm ready for a long soak in the furo.”

Greenery Day 7 Near

I think.

I'm getting pretty close to the end of chapter 7 of Greenery Day. Unless something major happens to change how the chapter ends. As soon as it's done I'll post the second half of the chapter here, then see about putting up the entire chapter at AFFnet and AssTR.

I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. At least if you're in the U.S. If you live in some other country, well, I still hope you had a nice day.

The Curse Strikes Again

I purchased an external hard drive for my computer, and set up to have everything backed up to it once a day, every day. It seems to be working fine. Hopefully any future problems with my home computer will not lead to a loss of precious data.

So how else can the curse strike? A couple of weeks ago the primary hard drive in my workstation at the office died! They put in a new drive, but were unable to recover anything from the dead drive. Oh well - this is a major company. They make backups.

The backup was unrecoverable. Something about an encryption that got fucked up. I'm like, what kind of million to one chance is this?! Just who in the netherworld did I piss off that much?

Luckily - and I say this through gritted teeth - I had just taken that business trip overseas in September. For which I took a laptop on which I had copied a lot of material from the workstation. Which I was able to copy back from the laptop. So there was a lot of important stuff which I didn't lose. On the other hand, there was a lot of vital data which I did lose - including all information on some research projects into which I'd put a fair bit of work.

So things at the office have been - let's say a little hectic. For want of more expletive laden language. And naturally my health took a downturn under the stress.

In other news, I did some more work on the current chapter of Greenery Day last night. Hopefully, barring any other distractions, I'll finish it sometime soon. At the moment, Ranma's getting a shave.

I Have Returned

I'm back.
I'm also half dead (or worse) from very long flights in spaces so cramped they'd be illegal for laboratory animals.

Recovery time will be necessary.

It's Aliiiive

I'm well on my way to piecing back together what I can of the contents of my computer. In fact, I'm typing this on my computer (the real one, not the netbook).

Naturally, when I installed the OS, I went ahead and installed Fedora 20, rather than reinstalling Fedora 19. Windows? Yeah, I have it on a partition somewhere. Heck, I even boot it up a couple of times a year.

Biggest point of pain so far is that I managed to lose a chunk of email from the period between the last backup and the crash. In fact, I was afraid at first that I'd lost it all, but I was able to recover the majority of it, including (I think) all that was sent to my HSaotomeSan gmail address.

Still a ways to go, but - I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'll probably finish the reconstruction just in time to catch the flight for my business trip at the end of next week.

It's Dead, Jim

The computer hard disk died completely this time. Everything on it is irretrievable.

Fortunately, all of my most critical data is completely backed up. That includes, for those of you who were wondering, my fanfic writings and notes.

Now I just need to get the new hard disk installed, reinstall the OS, all software, restore what I have backed up, and ... still wail and moan over some of the less critical data which was lost.

In any event, I expect to be confined to using a tiny little netbook for the next few days. Which is what I'm typing this on right now.

Oh, and just to make sure I have oodles of time to put everything back in my computer the way I had it, my company has decided to send me on a week-long business trip out of the country later this month. (Grumble, mumble.)

GD chapter 7 update

I've completed the morning scene for chapter 7 (Day 19), which sets up for what will hopefully be some interesting events in the afternoon. This day's target is Nabiki.
