I was taking a little time to think over the fact that I'm not very interested in fanfiction erotica outside of the Ranma 1/2 universe.
One obvious problem is that I only read a signficant amount of fanfiction for two other fandoms, Inuyasha and Harry Potter. I do read occasional stuff for others, for example Ah My Goddess and D.N.Angel, but not very much.
I think the problem with Inuyasha is simple enough. The only interesting female character (to me) for erotic purposes is Kagome herself, which wouldn't lend itself to a lot of variety, and in any case I absolutely detest anything happening between Kagome and Sesshomaru even in porn. I find Sango to be uninteresting, Rin is too young, Kaede is too old, Kikyo is too dead, and Kagura is too minor. Also the present-day Japan is too small a piece of the story to be very interested in anything involving Kagome's mother or her school friends. Although the latter probably offers the most scope, insofar as what I would find interesting.
I'm more puzzled by my lack of interest where Harry Potter is concerned. There are enough girls for reasonably interesting stuff, starting with Hermione, Ginny, Luna and Nymphadora call-me-Tonks. Then expanding to Susan Bones, Hannah Abbott, Daphne Greengrass, Pansy Parkinson, Cho Chang, the Gryffindor chasers, Fleur Delacour, and more. Even Narcissa Malfoy and her sister Bellatrix could work in a MILF sort of way (disregarding the latter was never a mother in the books).
I suspect the problem might be too narrow a window for appropriate ages. I enjoy fanfiction based on Hogwarts years 1-5 (or earlier), but seldom anything later. I personally found book 5 to be less interesting than books 1-4, and books 6 and 7 were much worse. So we have the settings from books 4 and 5 where the students in Harry's year were age 14-16, anything before that is getting too young, and anything after that is based on books I didn't like. Still, that ought to leave enough scope for plenty of good, hot stories, but it just doesn't seem to work for me.
It's a puzzle.
I just checked, and the Harry Potter books provide approximately 19 female characters who attended school in years which overlapped with Harry, plus a couple of others close in age such as Tonks and (sort of) Moaning Myrtle. Which certainly should provide plenty of female characters to work with even without branching out to slightly older characters.

ReplyDeleteI am really surprised by this as well. Most people who are into Ranma also seem to have interest in Tenchi Muyo and/or Sailor Moon as those were the two most prominent series that were popular at the time it came out.
ReplyDeleteI know some people who have problems with the age range of Harry Potter for erotic stories up the starting age of when they start Hogwarts. Most prominent are either starting at age 12 or 14, with some going to what I feel is the unworkable extreme of 16 or 18.
Me personally I am just glad that you like to write Ranma porn as its a disapearing breed.

I wonder if it might be a visual thing, in part. Ranma was a Manga and Anime, and you were shown the characters, sometimes in compromising positions.
ReplyDeleteBut in Harry Potter it was all text, and what little sexual contact there was was pretty low key. Maybe if it had been a bit more realistic with Harry and the other boys spending as much time and effort chasing pussy as they did the bad guys it would have been more inspiring.
Mind you, there is no shortage of Slash fiction for Harry.
I was into Sailor Moon porn back in the day, mostly because the porn was my main introduction to the series and back then there just was not that much of it.
I regret that so much of the SM porn I read back in the Nineties has vanished. there were some pretty good stories.
I also got hooked at that time on Wonder Woman and Batgirl porn, but the stuff that hooked me on them was fun, the latest stuff is just grim and really hateful.
Yeah, I've got no problem with slash for those who like it, but it's not my thing. That's a big reason I have only rarely dipped into D.N.Angel fanfic despite liking the series quite a lot, because its fanfic is a vast sea of slash.
ReplyDeleteI kinda understand you, being a long tme fan of the probably totally forgotten series Vampire Princess Miyu. She's still my favorite anime girl. Finding a new porn with her is trully a challenge. And there's even small number of fanfics with her (only a few).
ReplyDeleteGuess you should watch some bit more modern series. I don't mean a long time titles like Naruto or Bleach and One Piece or Jojo, but maybe series like Code Geass or, from the other hand, Kampfer - have a feeling that you might like this one.

You might try the Avatar series. The Last Airbender and Legend of Kora. Pretty much the best North American animation shows ever.
ReplyDeleteLegend of Kora in particular lends itself to doing fan fiction where something lewd happens to the protagonist. She suffers through a lot of conflict and finds herself powerless at one point against a foe who can take away her ability.
I started reading Kyokai no Rinne, quite a few volumes in fact, but tired of it. It just didn't seem to have the same pizazz as her Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Avatar, The Last Airbender and have all the DVDs. I also enjoy hentai cartoons based on it so long as the characters look old enough (e.g., Toph and Aang need to look a little older than canon). Haven't dipped much into erotica for it, just a little, probably because a lot of the characters are on the young side, and I don't care for Katara/Zuko pairings (on the other hand, I'm not bothered by Katara and her brother).
I watched the first season of Korra, but decided I wasn't enjoying it and was watching it more out of a sense of duty due to how much I enjoyed Last Airbender. The main reason is probably that I loathe steampunk.
Last season of Kora was awesome. And they actually listened to the fans and ended with a Kora/Asami pairing. Though the kiss scene was deleted from the episode shown on TV, you could see it on you tube. They finished the last episode walking hand in hand into the spirit world.
ReplyDeleteYou got me to thinking, and I realized that the only hentai fan fiction I ever got into writing was Ranma stuff.
I have done some Anthro My Little Pony, but it's not really based on the show so much as it's based on other fan fiction.
I did do a kids story based on MLP that was inspired by the show, but it had no adult scenes. It was a nice experiment in writing something a nine year old girl would enjoy reading.
I'm trying to think of any show that could inspire me to do Hentai, but really it was the whole transgendered transformation of Ranma that totally hooked me on the show, and my love for seeing Ranma-chan screwed bowlegged stemmed from the fact that Ranma's sexuality was never addressed in the show.
If Futaba-kun change had run longer, and had an anime, it might have inspired me to do some stories.
Not only did it also have a martial arts, sort of, guy who changed into a girl. They even had a story arc where his female love interest turned into a guy.
The interesting hook on that Manga was that the implications of Futaba's gender changing, he changed when he was overly excited, or aroused. Meaning that he was for all intents and purposes female in regards to sex. His big sister was a real ladies man when she shifted gender and was always making moves on poor Futaba.
Peter Schell - have you seen Kampfer then? It's about a guy who is involved in the some kind of the city game where players fight each other, sometimes in groups, sometimes in duels. Only a women can be a Kampfers, so when the game starts, he transforms into a girl. It's an action ecchi romantic comedy, not very long (one tv series and one oav series), but manga is longer and better imho. If you like gender bender stuff, then I think that Kampfer is one of the best titles.
